408 & 420 MODIFIED ENGINES UMP IMCA OR OP

These two engines were just built at Championship Sprint Car engine builder Ostrich racing engines. One is a 408 and another is a 420. We are not engine builders and only had these built to test our NEW Aftermarket Blocks. (Which we are completely sold out of as of 11/04/09) For all of those waiting for a block we should have more in by Jan 1. They are identical to the Little M Dart Block except for 4 bolt front and rear mains.

Back to the engines

The 408 Dynoed right at 600HP with 580 foot lbs of Torque. The 420 Dynoed at 638 HP with 624 foot lbs of torque. We were using the NEW Willeys NO Jets Carb. Not at all impressed with the Carb. The engines need a bigger carb as the break specifics were low. A larger blake or Gearte Pro would have added at least 20 ft lbs of torque and moved the power band up.

Both have 42lb Scat 4340 Crankshafts. Howards I Beam 4340 Rods
The 408 has JE pistons and the 420 has the Howards pistons by Ross.

Custom Cams Solid Tappet Camshaft and Howards Solid Lifters.

9 Keyway adjustable Timing Chains.

Heads are Dart Platinums CNC machined by HVH. Howards Rocker Arms.

Engines are IMCA Legal.

Port matched Brodix HVH Intake. Felpo and Cometic Gaskets used throughout.

Canton Oil Pans, The 408 has a 8quart and the 420 has a 9 quart oil pan.
Anticavitation Mellings Pumps.

MSD 85551 Distributors, Moroso Plugwires, Powder Coated Aluminum Valve Covers.

Engines are completely plumbed as shown in pictures.

Stripped down at an assembly line machine shop these engines built the same way would be $14,000-$16,000.

These engines were painstakenly and machined,blueprinted,assembled and Dynoed. Labor on machining and dynoing these engines were $4,500 each. Now add up the parts and you will see why $16,000 to $18,000 each would be a reasonable asking price for these animals.

The owner says sell them fast. He raced Modifieds for 11 years and says with these setting around there is to much temptation to get a car and start back in racing again. He is pricing them at $11,000 each for a quick sale. This is a no dicker price as he is already selling them for a loss.
